Back to Basics

Sometimes I feel like the most ambitious person I know. How does one balance the line between ambition and obsession? Is there even a line? The true balance is balancing ambition and love. Can you be ambitious and love what you do, while at the same time be able to love another person? It seems impossible seeing as many divorces occur because a husband is obsessed with work. Would you rather dedicate yourself to one cause and have all the success and accolades or find true love? Forget picking one or the other. I'm going to pick both and do it well. Don't sell yourselves short. I want to do it all. It sounds unrealistic, but that's only dependent on how far I'm willing to go. That presents another philosophical question-do we stay with what we are comfortable with or go into the unknown to either lose it all or gain it all? I feel like the answer is that we play it so safe that we would rather be comfortable. However, I would rather pursue it all, that way I have no regrets. Regrets just manifest themselves in bitter feelings.

Can We Get Much Higher?

Time to go back to just saying some real things. Does anyone ever have those days where you just give in to your primal instincts? In other words, when you get mad, act mad or say exactly what you're thinking? I think discretion is a beautiful trait, but when you use so much discretion that your identity is hidden, you lose the point of even having free will. Just a thought. And this is just a quick thought.

Part 2 of my Christmas wishes:
LRG Grassroots Pullover Hoodie. Please and thank you.

Muk Luk slippers. Or slippers in general.

6. Cologne. Something light scented

P.S. I'm not materialistic. This is more of a list of cool things that I think should be purchased for the Christmas holiday. However if I were to receive these things, that would be pretty awesome. #subblog

Very Fitting

Kanye's backkkkk...

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy debuted at midnight and after a first listen, it's safe to say Kanye West is back to full strength. 808's and Heartbreaks perplexed audiences and I thought he was gone forever, but this album reminded us why we like Kanye. It was a bit more artsy than his other albums, but the production was nice and it's showing him growing more as an artist. There are no street anthems, but it's still a quality album.

So, Jay-Z recently unveiled his autobiography...sort of:

His novel, Decoded, is Jay-Z explaining the meaning behind his song lyrics. It allows the reader to learn more about Jay-Z, but he still keeps the readers at a distance and allows his enigmatic side to still be the most prevalent part of his persona. I need to get this book. Fun fact: The cover is an original Rorschach painting by Andy Warhol. Ballin

Nay Bay Bay

I have a question. Why do people think late nights are going to change anything? I'm writing this blog late at night thinking that it's going to sound cooler just because I wrote it late at night. The honest truth, though, is that nothing sounds better late at night. We hope and pray that it does, but it never happens. People try to spark up long term romances late at night with people they barely know, but that never works like that. I don't know why we do that. That's just a random thought.

Feds Takin' Pictures

I need to step my picture game up:

I like this Nikon D90 because it has the quality of a professional camera, but the price of a common man's camera. I also like that it takes really good action shots. day....

Look At You. Look At Me.

This almost slipped under the radar:

Yes, Pharrell and company are back with N.E.R.D.'s "Nothing". I honestly thought this was going to be a halfhearted effort from Pharrell seeing as his single "Hot 'N Fun" didn't really pique my interests. However, this is the best production for a N.E.R.D. album since "The Neptunes Present: Clones". Yes, that's the album that gave the iconic song "Frontin'". Anyways, every song is good listening. It's not a dance album. It is great for a kick back, however.

Supposed to Be In Class, But I Ain't Goin'

I think Mac Miller is on the come up:

Once he can transcend rapping about the munchies and smoking weed, I think he'll be good. His wordplay is nice. Don't sleep on him just because he's a white rapper.

I Was Too Busy Rappin', Good As Hell

Kanye West has done it again. He has reinvented the music video. People thought the "Thriller" video would be the last major innovation in music video creation, but Kanye topped it:

This is the most epic music video of our generation. Who can top that? I have never watched a video made in my lifetime that visually striking, beautiful, entertaining, and majestic. Yes, it's that deep. The best part is that it gives us insight into how great his new album is going to be. If he doesn't win an award for this one, he can rush the stage, take the mic, have a meltdown, and blow up the awards ceremony because I don't know what's better than this.

No Homo But...

I really need a bag. Not in the sense of a purse. I need a high end travel bag that doesn't look like I just got out of practice. I hear Louis Vuitton is the move:

I like stuff like this. It's a good bag for a business trip or a weekend stay. I don't splurge much, but I would really like to have this. EarlyChristmasgiftfrommybloggers? Awwww thanks.

Gettin' Up

Since I've been living in the east coast, my mind has broken free of that California mindset and seen that snow is pretty to look at, and hell to live life with. Thank God for this. I found it on

Meyer Home Plow
This is the Meyer Home Plow. Yes, instead of shoveling a stupid driveway, you can plow it. Oh yeaaaa!!!

Welcome Back

I'm sorry blogosphere. I've been incognito. Life runs up on you fast. But anyways, I thought they were a one time thing, but Child Rebel Soldier is gaining momentum I guess:

Yes, this is possibly the most super of super groups. It has the two best producers of our generation in Pharrell and Kanye and three of the top five rappers in the game when they add Lupe Fiasco. Thank you God.

I Think It's Time

I have to address the whole D.C. and Gogo music issue. For the record, Gogo music is not that bad. In fact, a lot of it is good. The fact that they use live instruments is a touch that is losing its steam as more and more musicians take the easy route and just use computers instead of mastering instruments. All of that said, I just can't listen to Gogo for a long time. But, the verdicts out. World, tell me how you like Gogo:

Like a Kid In a Candy Store

For those sibling wars that won't end, even into adulthood:
Rubber Band Gatling Gun
What is this crazy contraption? It's a rubber band Gatling gun! Yes, it shoots out rubber bands fast. Yes, it's expensive. And yes, I want one. Enough said.

Look, Waka Flocka Flame is charismatic and all, but seriously, he needs to go back to school:

I always wondered what these kids would look like if they were real:

My Style Is More a Slam Dunk

I'm mad that everyone out there is finally recognizing Wiz Khalifa. I've been a fan since age 14. Honestly, I'm not mad. I'm happy people are discovering good music. Here's his latest video. I love videos like this where people look like they are genuinely having fun.

It's Been a Week

Sorry blog world, I've been so late and neglectful with these blog posts. Football has been killing me. First of all, who saw "Takers"?

For one, I'm an increasing fan of Idris Elba. His versatility astounds me. When he acts in his native accent, I believe it lends itself to certain roles. Conversely, when he acts using an American accent, it lends itself to other roles. I really think he carried the movie. Michael Ealy can't seem to break that wall of a supporting actor. He did fine in the movie, but if he hadn't been in the movie, there wouldn't have been much lost. The verdict is still out on Chris Brown and T.I. They seem to get type-casted into the same role. The same can be said for Hayden Christiansen, although his acting chops are getting increasingly better. Overall, this movie was pretty good and it made my birthday less boring. August 29 by the way. No happy birthdays from any readers. Dang. Ok I'm done.

You Can't Take It With You

This is morbidly brilliant. I stole this from
Chiral Coffin Screws Bodies in the Dirt
Chiral Coffin Screws Bodies in the Dirt
This is a screw in coffin designed by Donald Scruggs. It's cheap and efficient, something I believe all funerals/deaths should be. people dwell too much on physical representations of people who have already died. I'm not saying not to be sad. But, holding on to stuff that either belonged to them or spending a bunch of money on a coffin that you'll only see once is stupid.

To Infinity, And Beyond

Once again, Pogo does another amazing Disney remix with Buzzwing:

It's a Very, Very, Mad World

I saw this picture on my boy, John's facebook. I didn't understand it at first, but once I saw where it came from, it all made sense. Shout out to for finding this:
The Ruins of Detroit
The Ruins of Detroit shows many famous landmarks in Detroit that have now fallen into decay. It's hauntingly beautiful. It's sad to see modern cities fall like this, but at the same time, seeing that man once occupied something so monumental is a beautiful thought.

Why do people spell Rick Ross' nickname "rozay"? Clearly, he's talking about "Rose" with an accent mark over the "e". Uncultured *beeps*. Speaking of Rick Ross, this video always makes me laugh:

She Was Walkin' Around With a Loaded Shotgun

I never thought there would be a video for this, but I'm glad it happened:

Adam Levine is one of the coolest people that makes alternative music. Most of the people in that genre seem soft, but Adam Levine makes playing easy listening music seem cool. K'naan is cool too. I like him more as a pure singer though.

We Can't Be Living Like This for the Rest of Our Lives

It's safe to say he's back:

And with a vengeance I might add. I don't know how I feel about the mullet, but hey, different strokes for different folks. His verses have gotten better. 808's and Heartbreaks wasn't that bad of an album, it grew on me. But, it definitely was a hibernation and for this next album, I feel like Kanye is going to kill it once again. People lined up to see the Titanic sinkin'. Still, we rose from the ash like a Phoenix.

Super Duper

I desire these:
Supra-The Vaider Sneaker in Green Patent Leather
In other words, I'm going to be rocking the Supra Vaiders soon. Don't steal my idea. It's not a good look. Ughhhhhh, that's nasty.

While We're On Rick Ross Tuesday

This remix is better than the original:

Rick Ross gets swag points for being a fat dude taking off his shirt with no reservations. Most of his videos are like that I'm starting to notice.

I'm Gettin' Money, No Illuminati

I've been waiting for this album for awhile:

First of all, Ross' production team should win a Grammy by themselves. Every beat on this album is produced and mastered wonderfully. On his tracks named after cars, the beats are quite epic. It sounds like a movie. I don't care what his previous job used to be, Rick Ross just keeps getting better at rapping and the fact that he features just about every hot artist out there minus Wayne adds to the quality of the album. This is going on rotation for about two weeks all day. Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-check it out.

I Can't Figure It Out

First thing's first, my boy Chris Lewis is on the come up in the rap game with his rap duo, F.M. Anyways, C-Lew, as he calls himself, has some nice wordplay and flow. Anyways, don't worry, I don't just talk about it, I show you. Download F.M. "Run This Town" freeverse ASAP! In other news, I might have found another favorite artist, Ben Heine:
Ben Heine
If someone doesn't find this art, you're a snob. Point blank period.

This might be the best children's cartoon out right now:

This show has everything-silly cartoon limb movement, magic, fighting, dancing, adventure, and Autotune! The transforming dog is a nice touch. This show should win an Emmy. It's on Cartoon Network Mondays at 8pm est I'm just sayin' though.

Hey Little Suzie

Random thought: I was wondering why when someone's trying to do something, people always tell them what they can't do? A lot of people try to say it's people being haters, but in all honesty, I think it's a fear of getting far and then failing. I think if someone's trying to do something, no matter how hard or impossible, people should focus on that individual's strengths and use those strengths to overcome their weaknesses. I'm just sayin' though. Oh and this is how I feel the inside of a Mac looks like:

In the Midnight Hour

Does anyone realize that Pharrell has been making hits since the current college generation was toddlers? Yes, Pharrell Williams has been making hits since his sophomore year of high school. That's amazing. If anyone hasn't heard it yet, they need to get the "Despicable Me" soundtrack:

I know the movie hasn't come out yet, but Pharrell composed the whole album with Hans Zimmer. In other words, Pharrell teamed up with one of the two top movie score composers in the entire world. I'ma G, I'ma G

As the World Turns

Here is the athlete to watch on the US soccer team:

Jozy Altidore is one of the most skilled US soccer players I've seen in awhile. He's young and brings pure athleticism to the table. If you want to see someone get juked out their cleats, this is the guy to watch. He also takes a lot of hits. Tough soccer players always get props.

Et Tu Brutus

I'm sorry, I'm going to betray the Blackberry:
Motorola Droid X
DROID!! That commercial gets me every time. The Droid X beats the Blackberry for me because the data plan is the same price, and with the Droid it becomes a mobile hotspot. In other words, when you're in the airport and you don't want to pay for a stupid T-Mobile Hotspot or the limited bandwith of airport internet, you can pull out this bad boy and have your own internet. It's beautiful. Corporate Thuggin'

I want to read this to my future kids.

And Homie, You Ain't Even On My Altitude

This is how I feel sometimes:
Complex Thoughts
This piece is named "Complex Thoughts" its painted by Rochell Alexander. This picture honestly encompasses everything I believe I'm going through right now. The painting seems simple, yet complex at the same time. However, upon looking at it longer, you start to see various complexities that you missed at first. That's how I feel about myself. I'm a mass of idiosyncrasies and peculiarities that make me seem eccentric, but also genius. I'm making it more complicated than it is. Simply put, I like simple things but my thoughts are quite opposite. Enjoy.

The Wait Is Finally Over

So "Thank Me Later" finally dropped legally a little while ago:
Drake - 'Thank Me Later' (Young Money) Released: 14/06/10
It's niceeeeee. From what I've heard so far, it's a really chill album and it was worth the wait. I mean, the legal wait. Ok, I'm done. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Highly Underrated

I can't believe I ignored this movie:

John Krasinski is a wonderfully talented actor. His range is really impeccable. Maya Rudolph also played a good supporting role. It's about this boyfriend and girlfriend couple who are looking for places to raise their unborn child. When this movie previewed, I thought it was just a wanna-be indie movie that was cashing in on the appeal of John Krasinski from "The Office". I actually ended up forgetting that this movie even existed. I was bored tonight so I decided to give it a try. This movie cuts deep to the center of existentialist questions that all parents or wanna-be parents have. I don't want to ruin it, but watch it and be pleasantly surprised.

Everything to Me

Have you ever had the feeling that you're working to your capacity knowing that it's all you have and hoping that it turns out alright? I'm there right now. It's excitingly scary and I just wish everything would turn out o.k. so I don't have to worry every day. Oh, and starting today, I begin writing my memoir. I'm thinking about doing a book about my blogs also, thus the reason why I'm writing in more prose lately.

I was talking to my friend Melanie the other day and we got on the subject of people who hustle. We ended up sharing the same pet peeve of hearing people talking about hustling, but not going anywhere. I guess I feel like being a good hustler entails working hard all the time and making at least nominal progress, but these days, everyone's "hustling", but for some reason not making any money or status. It makes no sense. If you're going to be a "hustler" do it like Young Jeezy and actually get somewhere. I'm just sayin'.....

You Know What I Need?

Moccasins. I need a pair of moccasins. They're comfortable, yet functional, both things that I enjoy. Oh and if everyone didn't know, I'm pulling for the Celtics so I have to give them a shout out on the blog for beating the Lakers. It makes no sense that I'm from California and I don't like the Lakers, but I guess I don't like the fact that because they have Kobe, everyone's on their bandwagon. I believe if you're a fan, you're a fan of a team. If you're a fan of a person, that constitutes as groupie love. I'm just sayin'. Oh and I don't get why the world is on this whole going natural kick. Natural to me just equals naturally higher prices for simple products. At the end of the day, everything is natural. Even if it's made in the lab, the materials come from the earth. However, one natural thing that I do enjoy from time to time is pure cane sugar. It's an acquired taste but it does taste great in soda. Speaking of soda, check this one out:
Yes it is Cheerwine, cherry-flavored soda made from pure cane sugar. More please. Stolen from

This the Realest **** I Ever Wrote

Good morning world. So, I'm going to this wedding today. I don't know why I mentioned that, except for the fact that I feel like being a wedding planner is easy money and I'm kind of jealous. Oh, and by the way, I'm trying to get my children's books published. If anyone has any publisher hook ups, I'd be much obliged. Oh and I'm feeling like a new tattoo is in order. Which one should I get:

Who's your money on?

Can Someone Tell Me Why

Ice Cube, despite his horrible "Are We There Yet" movie series is making a sitcom of the same title. I don't care how beautiful Essence Atkins is or how funny and buff Terry Crews is. Frankly, Ice Cube is corny, and he is the only one I know that could ruin a show with all-star tv actors. He's still a thug though. Don't get me wrong. You know what is good, though?
